A Journey at Mindanao, Philippines

As someone who is living in Mindanao, specifically in General Santos City, earthquake is already common for us. We most likely feel an earthquake at least once every month. But, on October 16, 2019, a magnitude of 6.3 hit Magsaysay, Davao del Sur. It’s true that it is not that destructive and dangerous but after this, hundreds of small aftershocks were felt. I am not kidding. It’s hard to relax, laying on your bed and being rocked by an earthquake every once in a while.

October 29, 2019. Another earthquake happened in Mindanao. A magnitude of 6.6 hit Tulunan, Cotabato. By this, terror was painted in our faces — especially, the children. We were at school when this happened. The young ones were screaming and panicking and the old ones got dizzy because of it. And trust me, you would not want to feel it while at the third floor of your school, chillin’.

But it is not the end of it, in just two days, another earthquake happened. On October 31, 2019, Makilala, Cotabato was struck with a magnitude of 6.5. By this, many buildings collapsed and the most famous of all is the Eve’s Hotel that was located at Digos, Davao del Sur.

I, together with my family, traveled all the way from General Santos City to Magsaysay, Davao del Sur, Bansalan, Davao del Sur, and Makilala, Cotabato to help the victims. I took the opportunity to take pictures as I want to look back on this in the future.
